How to Quickly Escape from a Blind Date

Your friend fixed you up and within the first ten minutes you know this is not going anywhere (at least on your side). Here are five tips to make a quick yet polite exit.



Having friends set us up with somebody for a date is very common. People are not so apprehensive to the idea these days when the internet has become such a big vessel to initiate relationships.



Since an anonymous source of communication is providing relationships, why not go on a blind date?



However, on the internet it is very easy to simply log off and claim connection problems if things are not progressing as you would like with a new acquaintance. In real life it may not be so simple so here are five easy ways out:



1. Pretend to be getting sick: this is the easiest way out as long as you are somewhat good at acting. You do not want to overdo it or else your date might offer to take you to a hospital. You should just keep along the lines of feeling indisposed over something you had for lunch and needing to lie down.



2. Look at your watch constantly: nothing says I am not interested like this. If the other person is paying attention, the message will be caught quickly enough.



3. Make it all about yourself: do not allow your date to squeeze a word in. That would guarantee a quick meal and no chance of a second invitation. Nobody likes an egomaniac so this should ensure that no dessert is ordered.



4. Talk about your ex: this is a bad idea in general terms but definitely a no-no on a first date. Chances are your date might even mention something and open the door for you to say you are not totally over that other person. Again, no dessert here.



5. Check out other people: nothing causes more grief than your date checking out or even flirting with another person right in your face. This should be a last resort, considering you have a common acquaintance who fixed you up in the first place.



Honesty is definitely the fastest, easiest way to end a bad date. Use your best judgement to read the other person and see if they will take this well. Otherwise, use any of the five tips above as appropriate, depending on what kind of person your date seems to be.
